Bruce Wayne / Batman
Bruce Wayne is the protagonist of this film. A wealthy man who inherited his family's fortune which was built by his father, a man who sought to restore Gotham City with business and industry rather than tear it down. Bruce has a rebellious nature to him, he's unsettled ever since he witnessed his parents murder at a young age. He is trained by Ra's Al Ghul from The League of Shadows and becomes Batman to defend Gotham City rather than try to tear it down as he is asked to do.
Rachel Dawes
Rachel is Bruce's best friend from a young age. Her mother worked for the Wayne family on their property. She's become a hard-hitting litigator who eventually become the Assistant District Attorney in Gotham City. Bruce begins to reveal that he is in love with her and she becomes the protagonist's romantic interest.
Ducard
Ducard, aka Ra's Al Ghul, is the head of The League of Shadows a secret organization that seeks to bring down the great cities that have descended into filth (in his opinion) in order to rebuild from the ashes. He trains Bruce to become a warrior and ultimately Batman. But the two become enemies when Bruce refuses to tear down Gotham City, his home with The League of Shadows.
Jim Gordon
Gordon is a Detective with the Gotham Police Department. He is a man that can be trusted in amongst those who are on the take from Falcone, including his partner. Batman goes to him and finds an ally in Gordon who helps him to fight crime and The League of Shadows in Gotham City.
Dr. Jonathan Crane
Crane is the lead psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum. He is embedded with The League of Shadows, and we find that he also is Scarecrow. He uses the hallucinogen from the rare blue flower in order to make any patient he meets with appear insane. He, along with Ra's Al Ghul are the main protagonists in the film.
Alfred
Alfred in the Wayne family's long-time butler. He's served the family prior to Bruce's parents being killed. He has stayed on to raise Bruce and is essentially his father figure. Alfred also is the one person who knows about Batman and helps Bruce to set up headquarters underneath Wayne Manor.
Falcone
Falcone is a mob boss in Gotham City. He's believed to be responsible for Bruce's parents being murdered. He has a high level of influence over city officials and police as he buys their loyalty. Bruce wants to kill him, but doesn't. Eventually, as Batman, Bruce is able to hang Falcone out to dry.
