Fourth Grade Weekly
What is one thing that we don’t know about you that you want us to know?
I wrote for my first newspaper in 4th grade, the Fourth Grade Weekly. I was the owner, editor in chief, and lead writer. The Weekly contained hard-hitting pieces - by 4th-grade standards - such as Joke of the Week, Restaurant Reviews, and Sports News. My best friend and I would print out 26 copies (one for each student) every week and deliver them to our classmates at the end of the day.
Ever since then, newspaper writing and I have been inseparable. Since 9th grade, I've written for the Marist newspaper, the Blue and Gold. Part of the reason I like writing for newspapers so much is that I can always write about something I care about. I've had a lot of fun during high school writing movie reviews or sports articles. Whether it be a review of “The Martian” or recapping the latest school football game, I was always able to write about topics that I would chat with my friends about. As I have moved up to the editorial staff, I have enjoyed seeing how all the different interests and opinions come together on publication day to form one paper. I know that I want to continue writing about my passions throughout my life, whether that be through a college paper or my own blog.
