    The Survivors

    Creative Writing

    Objective:

    To explore the play's climax from a novel point of view

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9-10.3

    Structure:

    Discuss the end of the play. Who has died, and who has lived? Make a list of characters who survived Antigone.

    Students should choose a character from this list whose point of view they will take on. How might Ismene feel about the events that take place at the end of Antigone, for example? How might Teiresias feel? Students will then have twenty minutes to write a monologue—using Sophocles's style as translated by Grene—that explores their chosen character's point of view.
