Mr. Bowring
In the poem entitled "To Mr. Bowring’’ the major character is Mr. Bowring. He is a translator who, according to the author, translated from many languages, including Russian and Dutch. He is praised for his talent and is compared to a musician who creates art through his work. This idea is important because it is linked with the work a translator does.
The King
In the poem entitled "On the King’s Illness’’ the narrator presents the King, most probably King George III. While many considered the King mad and agitated for his removal from power, the author talks about him in very appreciative terms and praises him for the way he ruled. Thus, King George is portrayed here I a positive way and as a person who should not be criticized but rather appreciated.
The narrator
The narrator is the only person who appears in the poem entitled "Autumn’’. The narrator represents the voice of the author and through that voice the narrator expresses her opinions on political matters as well as more trivial one such as the weather and how it can influence a person.
