Bateman’s Greed
In the beginning of the movie, we learn who Bateman is as a person, before we learn about his wicked deeds. He is a leader of a company that he is very proud of and he is generally well liked and respected. We also learn that he and his associates boast heavily based on their business cards. This seems like thoughtless fun, until Bateman kills Allen, because he happens to have a better business card than Bateman did.
Officer interviews Bateman
Bateman turns on his charm full level when Allen’s disappearance is discussed by the police. He is such a good actor, knowing exactly which buttons need to be pushed in order for his innocence to be proven. He is so well liked that the police seemingly don’t even wish to look into Bateman’s involvement in the case, just because they think him a nice lad.
Bateman realizing that he has lost control
After a while, Bateman has gone on several killing sprees, and he understands to some extent that they need to stop. However, they don’t. He knows that the only way he will be stopped is if he is physically behind bars and kept under lock and key. However, when he tries showing what he has done, expressing how he isn’t innocent, he is looked over. He has played the game so well that people truly believe he is joking when he describes slaughtering his victims.
