What role do you think Hamilton's pamphlet against Adams played in his loss in the 1800 election? What other factors at play that may have cost Adams the presidency?
As Chernow explains in Chapter 36, in the lead-up to the election, Hamilton wrote a pamphlet harshly criticizing Adams, but tried to keep it mostly private, hoping that it would be dispersed among the Federalists and it would lead to his preferred candidate (Pinckney) winning against Adams. Unfortunately for Hamilton, the pamphlet gets out to Republican newspapers.
