Abaddon's Gate Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Holden

Holden symbolizes bravery. Despite Holden knowing the dangers of getting closer to the alien gate, he agrees to lead a crew of scientists to Venus to study the mysterious authority of aliens. When the crew gets closer to the orbit of Uranus, Holden realizes that their lives are in danger because any passing that territory dies. However, Holden devices a strategy to access the alien structure, and the screw gets an opportunity to study the alien structure.

The United Nations (UN)

The United Nations is a symbol of unity and prosperity. When the UN learns that the aliens are taking over other planets, they are concerned because that will bring instability to Earth and endanger human life. Therefore, the UN sends its scientists to outer space to investigate its structure and purpose. The UN wants to know how it can develop strategies to control the alien authority's spread.

The ring

The ring symbolizes potential destruction. The aliens use sophisticated ring technology to control outer space, aiming to destabilize the solar system. Holden and his crew are very worried about this new and dangerous technology used by the aliens. Any attempt to destroy the world will translate to massive loss of lives. Therefore, the UN is keen on developing alternative technologies to counter alien influence.

The Rocinante

James Holden and his crew's spacecraft, the Rocinante, represents resistance to repressive forces and the crew's solidarity despite diversity. In the midst of the turmoil and violence around the Ring, it acts as a vessel of hope and a lighthouse of moral courage.
