A Slight Trick of the Mind Background

A Slight Trick of the Mind Background

The seventh novel of American novelist Mitch Cullin, A Slight Trick of the Mind was published in April 2005. The audiobook edition won the Audio Publishers Association's 2006 Audie Award for Unabridged Fiction.

A Slight Trick of the Mind centers around the prominent pop culture character Sherlock Holmes, however with a twist: Sherlock is old and ailing, unable to even walk without a cane. His once sharp mind is waning, and his memory is diminishing, leading him to recount the many endeavors of his life to the housekeeper's son before, as he fears, they disappear forever.

A Slight Trick of the Mind was moderately well-received. Readers generally liked the original re-imagining of Sherlock's classic tale, and critics praised Cullin's distinctive narrative grace.
