"A Problem from Hell": America and the Age of Genocide is a human rights book exploring the history of genocides in the 20th century. It was written by Professor Samantha Power and was published by Basic Books on February 20, 2002.
The book details the real-life genocides of the twentieth that were witnessed globally by nations that contributed little to their prevention. Power criticizes the lack of inaction made by powerful nations, such as the US and other western powers, in giving enough relevancy to foreign policy issues that did not affect them. She brings up the Armenian Genocide (1914-23), The Holocaust (1941-45) and the Rwandan Genocide (1994) as key points of discussion.
The book was praised by The Guardian and stated that the book “illustrate(s) so clearly, determination was often lacking to deal with crises that most people agreed were serious, there was no shortage of it.”
