Hemingway incorporates a fair amount of autobiographical information into A Farewell to Arms, specifically his time as an ambulance driver on the Italian Front. Although A Moveable Feast focuses more on his time in Paris following World War I, readers can learn more about the author's life through his own words in this work.
Iceberg Theory, one of Hemingway's trademark writing philosophies, is a major part of A Farewell to Arms, as well as The Sun Also Rises. You may also have students read the short story "Hills Like White Elephants," which serves as an excellent introduction to Iceberg Theory.
