Students will identify important locations in the novel up to this point.

Structure:

At this point in the novel, Frederic has been to several different locations throughout Italy. Divide students into groups of 4-5. Have each group go through Books One and Two and determine where he has been. For instance, we know that the novel begins in the town of Gorizia and moves on to Plava by Chapter V. Eventually, he is moved to a hospital in Milan, where he stays for some time. From there, he takes a train from Undine back through to Gorizia.
