A Cyborg Manifesto Summary

A Cyborg Manifesto Summary

What are cyborgs and how their mere existence can change our perception of life? Dwelling on these questions, the author contemplates our social system and its drawbacks. She doesn’t miss anything, criticizing almost every aspect of Western culture, and blaming it for the terrible state our society is in.

According to the author, cyborgs are our only hope - regardless the fact that they are offsprings of militarism and a masculinist culture - for the better future where equality reigns. Unlike us, ordinary people who are prejudiced, divided, and whose heads are full of stereotypes that we can’t get rid of, cyborgs are free. They don’t know what religion is, they are freed from insecurities we might have, a concept of God doesn’t loom over us. In other words, there are no limits for them, what is more, cyborgs are supposed to put an end to human domination. They are here to destroy the last boundaries between us, animals, and technologies.

Thus, they won’t recognize us their creators. The author hopes that they will be able to destroy the boundaries between people too. In spite of the fact that the essayist pay a lot of attention of feminism, she states that it is only a step to the better world. The best scenario for all of us is the world in which there is no man, woman, race, and, of course, religion. She calls it post-gender world. However, the writer doesn’t say that it is the only one right way for us to pursue. This essay is a dream about a better society. Her mottos is, “I would rather be a cyborg than a goddess.”
