Ned Marriner
A friendly and inquisitive protagonist who teams up with Kate Wenger to help solve a supernatural conflict among fallen soldiers in and around Provence, France. His supernatural abilities allow him to detect spirits, to involve himself in their drama, and to bear witness to things that normal people can't see in the spiritual realm.
Kate Wenger
This sweet, interested teen is an American foreign exchange student, in France for school, and because she's an avid student of history and architecture. She's especially fond of the Saint-Sauveur Cathedral, and her commitment to Ned and Ned's quest are part of his success.
Melanie
Melanie is an associate of Ned's father, part of his photography crew. Her bright spirits are encouraging to every character, but especially to Ned, until her spirit is subdued by an invader, Ysabel, who uses her body as a vessel for her own purposes. The central plot of the narrative arc is Ned's attempt to save Melanie by climbing a haunted mountain.
Edward Marriner
Ned's father, Edward, is a photographer in the south of France whose work on a book of photography positions his family in the spiritual realm of an ancient battle. His family carries a gene that enables them to speak to the dead.
Meghan Marriner
Ned's mother, currently working with Doctors Without Borders in Sudan. She is summoned to help the family, in addition to Uncle Dave.
Uncle Dave
A man with powerful psychic abilities who aids the Marriner family in a quest to free Melanie from the dark powers that have possessed her.
