The protest
The protests that are undergoing downstairs are terrific, and people are running in all directions, looking for safety. The people inside buildings try to lock themselves up to avoid the demonstrators' wrath. Paradoxically, this is a perfect opportunity for Luz and her boss, David, to have sex inside the office. The reader finds it ironic that when other people are scrambling for safety, Luz and her boss scramble to satisfy themselves sexually.
The irony of love
Luz is dating two men at the same time. Therefore, Luz needs help deciding which man will marry her. The reader notes that Luz does not love David, but she loves his wealth and opulent lifestyle. Whenever Luz goes out with David, they spend nights in luxurious hotels. However, Luz is deeply in love with another poor man. Ironically, Luzy decides to spend the rest of her life with David, a man she does not love but is wealthy. Later, Luz discovers that David does not give her any attention because he is a womanizer.
Money
Under normal circumstances, there is a clear line between money and morality. Luz is described as a woman of morals because she grew up preserving her body and following her religious teachings. Ironically, when Luz meets David, she gets corrupted by money and compromises her morals. Despite knowing that David is a womanizer, Luz hangs around with him because he gives her money.
