Jimmy
Jimmy is Vietnam War veteran who loves Gloria, an imaginary character formed by him. He goes to every brothel of Tenderloin city, in search of Gloria and pays prostitutes for telling their life stories and experiences to him. Jimmy feels sexually aroused by the stories of prostitutes, and he imagines that these stories are Gloria's story; he starts seeing Gloria in the prostitutes of Tenderloin.
Peggy
Peggy is a prostitute. She claims that she saves marriages because she fulfills her customer's desires and fantasies that can't be fulfilled by their wives.
Candy
Candy is a sex worker who tells her stories to Jimmy. She believes that people tend to attract to the thing that is inaccessible to them.
