The Black Widow Spider
Paul was once wandering about and he saw a black widow spider. He described it as, '... was a glistening black bulbous body, bearing in its shine the dreaded blood-red hourglass.' This description contains imagery because of the use of adjectives such as 'blood-red' to describe the spider.
The Night at Sierra Camp
During a summer holiday when Paul was an undergraduate, he went for a summer camp. During the camp, Paul was astonished by how beautiful the place was. He described the night as, '... pitch - black, stars in full glimmer, the full moon still pinned in the sky.' The description contains imagery from the use of adjectives such as, 'pitch-black' to describe the night.
The Wailing Woman
During his undergraduate studies, Paul and his classmates visit a brain injury centre where Paul noticed a wailing woman. Paul described her as, '... on a blue mat front of the television, in a plain flower print dress, was a young woman, maybe twenty...' The narration contains imagery which has been built by the adjectives, 'blue' and 'young'.
Mrs. Lee's Husband
Mrs. Lee and her husband had come to the hospital since she was not feeling well. Paul described Mrs. Lee's husband as, 'Her husband, his plaid shirt tucked into crisp jeans, stood by her bedside, fidgeting with his wedding ring.' Paul achieved imagery in the description by using adjectives to describe Mr. Lee's clothing. These adjectives are 'plaid' and 'crisp'.
