Take a look at what the second narrator says about religion on pages 240-241. Does this remind you of any other passages in the book? How do these connections affect your understanding of the narrator?
This passage is very reminiscent of Darling's thoughts about religion. In your class discussion, you may want to do a direct comparison to the paragraph on page 100 which begins "I've thought about it properly," although other passages are certainly relevant. The thinking in the later chapter appears to incorporate and build on younger Darling's convictions.
