Betrayal of Lhamo’s love

Lhamo and Samphel start their love affair while in the Nepal refugee camp. The person who presented “Ku” on Lhamo's family brings Samphel to the refugee camp. Samphel is young and handsome, and he falls in love with Lhamo. Paradoxically, Samphel tells Lhamo that he loves money more than her. Therefore, Samphel had no option but to break with and pursue money. After some years, Samphel visits the Nepal refugee camp, and he tricks Lhamo; they spend a night together. Again, Samphel disappears. Nine months later, Lhamo gives birth to Dolma. Despite Samphel being a rich businessperson, he does not care about Samphel and Dolma, his daughter, who are still living in the refugee camp. When Dolma comes of age, her mother sends her to live with Tenkyi in Toronto, where she furthers her studies.

The appearance of “Ku” in Canada

The last time Lhamo sees “Ku” is when he gives him to Samphel to take him back to his uncle, who gave him to the family. Therefore, Lhamo's family expected “Ku” to be in possession of Samphel’s uncle. Ironically, while Dolma is in Canada attending a party of wealthy art collectors, she sees “Ku” in possession of one of the guests. Consequently, Samphel sold “Ku” instead of honoring his promise to return him to the owner. However, someone else cannot own “Ku,” so he appears and reappears when he feels necessary.

The irony of the invasion

The Chinese government invaded Tibet primarily to take the territory and the people to make them part of China. Ironically, what started as a security operation became a massacre and mass exodus of people who fled to Nepal as refugees. Therefore, the Chinese government never achieved its goal because people were killed, and many ran away for safety.
