Not the type of reaction one would expect
When Harlow begins acting in an uncontrolled manner, those around her run away in fear, hoping to escape her wrath. The only person who remains behind to watch the show is Rosemary who acts as if nothing bad happened. What is even more ironical is that instead of being shocked or appalled, Rosemary is amused and she even starts laughing at the scene before her.
Happy to be in jail
After being arrested, Rosemary wonders how her parents will react and she is worried that they will be displeased with her. Ironically, while Rosemary is worried, Harlow is happy and in good spirits, appearing seemingly unaffected by the events and happy to be in prison.
Embarrassed
The reason why Rosemary ran away when she was five years old was because she was embarrassed that other children saw her underwear, thus proving that no one took the time to explain to her the sides of sexuality and how to deal with it. Ironically however, even though Rosemary ran away, she ended up in the house of a man into BDSM and even found a woman tied to a bed in one of the rooms.
A better family
It is mentioned time and time again that Rosemary’s family is not religious at all and that her father considers science as being his religion. Because of this, it is ironic to see that when Lowell began leaving his parents’ house and spending time with other families, the family he liked the most was a highly religious one that even tried to impose their religious views on Rosemary’s father.
Negative influence
It becomes clear that Fern's presence affected in a negative way the family that was trying to raise the chimp as a human. The family became limited and was unable to travel like normal families would normally travel and it also influenced the way the parents interacted with their real children. Despite this, when Fern disappeared, both Rosemary and her brother criticized their parents for getting rid of the chimp. Ironically however, the relationship between the parents and the children improved after Fern disappeared even though the children were not happy with their parents’ decision.
