The old male professors are expected to be father figures and guide students, but they are doing the opposite. For instance, the head of the English Department is the worst sexual predator on campus. Students have organized a protest to kick him out of campus.
The irony of open marriages
The narrator and her husband are in an open relationship, but everyone else knows that they are a perfect couple. The husband in this marriage is a womanizer and has multiple sexual affairs with young students. However, since they are in an open relationship, the wife cannot confront him. Therefore, this marriage is for convenience because even the narrator looks for a younger man to satisfy her sexually.
The irony of Vladimir
Vladimir is a newly recruited professor in the liberal arts college, where she starts a new life with his wife and child. Vladimir is a handsome young man with a bright future. Ironically, in a few days, Vladimir and the unnamed female narrator start having a sexual relationship. Despite Vladimir knowing he has a faithful and beautiful wife, he decides to cheat on her with the narrator.
