What motivates Emma's father to send her to a medical school in California?

Emma's father is a medical doctor by profession, and upon realizing that his daughter has a natural healing talent, he sends her to a medical school to perfect her career. Emma was naturally born with a gift of healing people whenever she laid her hands on them. Emma's father also wants her family to have many people in the medical profession and he thinks that Emma is most suited for that opportunity.
