Every classroom is different, but the contentious issues of slavery and racism addressed in Uncle Tom's Cabin remain disturbingly relevant in a contemporary context, and are likely to hold the interest of many students. These lessons and activities provide many different approaches to the text; select those that best suit the strengths and interests of your own class. Bear in mind that you are teaching sensitive historical material, and make sure to leave room for open discussions in your classroom, inviting the perspectives of students who struggle personally with the text and/or the language contained therein.
