What does Black Dog's appearance at the Spyglass Inn reveal about his role in the story of Treasure Island?

For some students, Black Dog's second appearance will seem as another example of foreshadowing. Additionally, after considering this jointly with Billy Bone's earlier warning about a one-legged pirate, some students may draw the conclusion that Captain Long John Silver is in cahoots with Black Dog and the other pirates. Other students may draw other conclusions, such as the idea that Bristol is a haven for many pirates, and perhaps even houses a few networks of them.
