Chishû Ryû
Chishû Ryû's career in film and tv lasted 65 years. He appeared in 160 films during this span. The first ten years of his career Ryû had all minor parts. But in that time he worked with Yasujirō Ozu fourteen times and he would later give him his break out role in The Only Son. He would go on to have tremendous success after proving himself an actor in this film.
Chieko Higashiyama
Chieko Higashiyama began training as an actress at the age of 35. Prior to this she lived in Moscow with her husband. Once going through school she began working on the stage before appearing in over sixty films during her 41 year film acting career.
Setsuko Hara
Setsuko Hara appeared in 67 films before working with director Yasujirō Ozu for the first time in 1949s Late Spring. Hara quit acting in 1963, the same year Ozu died. She secluded herself away from the public eye and said that she was never really fond of acting she just did it to support her family.
Haruko Sugimura
Haruko Sugimura is a stage and film actress best known for working with directors Yasujirō Ozu and Mikio Naruse during a twenty year period between the late 1940s through the beginning of the 1960s. Sugimura is most well known for her role as Shige in Tokyo Story.
Sô Yamamura
Sô Yamamura appeared in 110 films during his lengthy career. He also directed four films, and is most well known in the west for his roles in Gung Ho, Tora! Tora! Tora! and Combined Fleet.
Kyôko Kagawa
Kyôko Kagawa wanted to be a ballerina but began a career in film after being discovered in a beauty contest. She has appeared in 118 films from 1950 to the present day.
