“Tobermory” was first published in 1909 in The Westminster Gazette. The original version of the story did not include the character Clovis. The story was later revised for book publication and the revised version incorporated Clovis, a character that appears in many of Saki’s stories. In the late 20th century, readers of London’s Daily Telegraph were asked to submit their favorite Saki stories. Of the hundreds of responses, “Tobermory” was nominated several times as among the best of Saki’s published stories (Frost 446-447).
