    Why does the point of view change to a more omniscient narrator in this section?

    The change in point of view emphasizes the passing of time. Woolf makes the house a character unto itself and demonstrates time passing through the changes to it rather than through the characters themselves. By stepping back but keeping the Lighthouse the same, it shows its steadfast constancy, how it will always be there.
