Harper Lee is known best as the author of To Kill a Mockingbird. She was born on April 28, 1926, in a small southwestern Alabama town named Monroeville. Her novel also takes place in Alabama and is told by a female narrator. Lee never published a second novel, perhaps because To Kill a Mockingbird set such a high standard. Or perhaps her life illustrates the maxim that everyone could find something in his or her life experience that could become a novel; everyone has one novel inside.
