About the Author

Anton Chekhov was a Russian playwright and one of the most prominent dramatists in theater history. Along with Henrik Ibsen and August Strindberg, he is credited with bringing modernism to the theater. His plays include The Seagull, The Cherry Orchard, Three Sisters, Uncle Vanya, and Ivanov, among others. Chekhov is known for his staging of the human condition and for searching explorations of great existential questions and truths. His plays are also known for presenting a "theater of mood," rather than a strictly action-based drama.
