    How are the party and the sexual assault a turning point?

    Up until that point, Hannah does not feel completely without hope. She still has faith in people, like Marcus, and tries to cope with her feelings, with poetry. But at the party, Hannah becomes complicit in some of the terrible things that happen. She is not just a victim anymore. This guilt eliminates the hope she had, and so she turns further down the path toward suicide.
