What do the emeralds represent in "Guardia de Honor"?
To a certain extent, they represent power, as Natalia has them because of the influence her father enjoys and they become a symbol followed by other people. When Josie tries to steal the emeralds, she's attempting to get some of that power. But the theft underscores the other thing represented by the emeralds, loss and death. The emeralds play an important part in the deaths of both Esteban and Josie's mother.
