Holling Hoodhood
Holling is the antihero protagonist of The Wednesday Wars, a seventh grader and Presbyterian at a highly religious school divided between Catholics and Jews.
Mrs. Baker
Mrs. Baker is a teacher at Holling's school. Every Wednesday, Holling must spend time with her for he cannot attend mass with the other Catholic and Jewish students. As he begins to learn more about her, he begins to understand her more. Mrs. Baker's husband is stationed in Vietnam, and she worries about him greatly.
Mr. Hoodhood
Holling's father, an ambitious and striving man who is determined to climb the social ladder by building his architecture business. He is intent on Holling taking over his business when he retires, and demands Holling to always be on his best behavior because of this, for he must have the respect of people in the neighborhood.
Heather Hoodhood
Heather is Holling's older sister, and provides a sense of comfort in Holling's tumultuous life. However, this is broken when she runs off to California with her boyfriend to escape small town life.
