“What could be pleasanter than to have a mother!”

Aurelius Love

Motherhood is neither a status, nor job, nor a hobby. It is a duty of every woman to love and take care of her child. It is ideally, when you have a mom and you can feel her warmth and affection. However, what if the future mother does not have an opportunity to raise her infant? Emmeline March wanted to protect her son Aurelius from the jealous sister, so another woman raised him. Unfortunately, Aurelius always dreams of having a father. He has neither brother nor sister. He has no relatives at all. He often imagines that he has a large family. He imagines his many generations. Not every person knows his/her mother. It is awful not to feel maternal love. And Aurelius hopes that one day he will meet her mom.

“Families are webs. Impossible to touch one part of it without setting the rest vibrating.”

Vida Winter

Everybody has a story. You may not know your parents, but your family exists regardless of your knowledge or ignorance. You can move away from relatives, break-off all kinds of relations with them, but if you say you do not have a family, you are a selfish person. You have no right to claim that you are alone. Human lives are not separate threads, which can be untangled from the coil and neatly arranged on the surface. Vida’s story concerns not only herself. This is a story of the village of Angelfield, the Angelfield homestead, spouses George and Mathilde Angelfield, their children Charlie and Isabelle, Isabelle’s children Emmeline and Adeline. This is a story of their lives, joys, fear and their family ghosts. They are all connected.

“Children are capable of great cruelty. Only we do not like to think it of them.”

Hester Barrow

Children are flowers of life for their parents. However, what if these flowers turn into the thorns? Kids are very kind and always tell the truth, but if their parents badly raise them, children grow up to be heartless. Emmeline and Adeline March grow up without a mother and their main trait is cruelty. Twin destroy everything. In the case of Emmeline, the answer is very simple – Adeline makes her. However, it is much harder to answer what concerns Adeline’s motives. Hester doubts that Adeline understands her actions. She often acts impulsively and does not realize her deeds. Whatever the motives of their actions, their consequences are a heavy blow to all the dwellers of the Angelfield homestead.
