Isora - "Kibitsu no kama"
Isora is the daughter of a priest of Kibitsu village. She loves her husband, but her husband isn't faithful, and she gets cheated by her husband. Isora waits for her husband to return when he doesn't come back, Isora dies from sadness and becomes a vengeful ghost.
Shotaro - "Kibitsu no kama"
Shotaro is married to Isora but, soon, he gets bored of his new wife. Isora tells him to help his father in farming, but Shotaro starts to feel annoyed by her. One day he elopes from his house with her prostitute lover.
Toyoo - "Jasei no in"
Toyoo is the son of a fisherman. He only likes to read books. When he meets Manago, a beautiful and witty girl, he falls in love with her. Toyoo takes a vow to spend his life time with her but fails to keep his promise because Toyoo has to marry with another woman after the sudden death of his brother right before his marriage.
Manago - "Jasei no in"
A serpent woman Manago falls in love with Toyoo. Manago pretends to be a noble lady who loves to read books and writes poetry. When Manago comes to know that Toyoo married another girl, she gets angry and possesses his wife to take revenge from her lover.
Kaian - "Aozukin"
A zen master who is a wandering monk, this character visits a village that is haunted by a demon. He saves villagers from that demon.
