Claude’s envy
Claude and his brother Gar have different ambitions in life. Gar takes up after his father's dog breeding business, but Claude moves away to pursue other dreams. Gary carries on with his father's business, and he becomes successful. Ironically, Claude is envious of his brother's success in business and relationships. Therefore, Claude decides to desire everything his brother has. At last, Claude murders Gar in secrecy. The reader finds it satirical that Claude can go to the extreme of killing his blood brother for material gains.
Ghostly encounter
Edgar is woken up in the middle of the night by the barking of the dogs. Edgar expects to find something wrong troubling the dogs, but satirically, he encounters a ghost, which is his father! Edgar's father communicates with him using sign language and shows him a syringe that Claude used to kill him. Edgar is shocked to learn that his uncle, Claude, killed his father.
The irony of Trudy’s immoral actions
Trudy is the mother of Edgar and wife to the late Gar. Ironically, Trudy is having a sexual affair with Claude, his brother-in-law, after he suspiciously killed Gar using poison. Edgar knows that his uncle Claude has a hand in his father's death because he received that reevaluation when he encountered a ghost. Edgar is shocked to learn that his mother, Trudy, is sleeping with his uncle. The reader does not expect Trudy to be having an illicit sexual affair with her brother-in-law.
The irony of the unexpected death of Dr. Papineau
Edgar and his mother start an argument that turns out furious. Quickly, Edgar sees Claude coming to defend Trudy. Edgar swings his hook towards Claude and kills him instantly. Ironically, Edgar realizes that he has killed Dr. Papineau, thinking that he was Claude. To save his life, Edgars runs into the woods for a while to avoid possible repercussions.
The ultimate end of Claude
Claude is a vicious individual who is doing everything possible to possess his late brother's property and family. Claude starts his mission by killing Gar, his brother. Secondly, Claude takes Gar's wife and starts sleeping with her shamelessly. After realizing that Edgar has discovered the cause of his father's death, Claude starts eliminating Edgar. With the help of Glen, a policeman, they set a trap to kidnap Edgar. Unfortunately, while trying to kidnap Edgar in the barn, it catches fire, and Claude dies together with Edgar. The reader finds it sardonic that Claude thinks that he owns the world and will live forever.
