The Stone Gods Metaphors and Similes

Landmass of the world

Spike and Billie are left on Planet Blue in the aftermath of the asteroid hitting the land. They discuss how long it will pass before a human writes a poem again. Spike tells Billie that it will be after millions of years and that it will be a love poem. Billie asks her how does she know it, and she answers that it will happen after someone realizes that "the stretch of the body-beloved is the landmass of the world".

Death of the White planet

"The planet is a raging death". Handsome talks about the exploration of a white planet, the remains of a planet that was once a hopeful home. The planet is described as drowning in its raging hot whiteness; it is compared to inferno, and the whiteness of it is a mockery of a life destroyed, of nothingness that was left behind.

"She needs us like a bed needs bedbugs"

The crew is admiring the Planet Blue as they approach it, and Billie makes this cynical remark that portrays her character in a pointed manner. She is able to see the fault sin humanity and the destruction they will only bring to the magnificent planet.

Giant creature

Billie reaches an old dish of a radio telescope while she's on the run being accused of terrorism. She compares being in it as though she was in a cup of some giant creature, which moved slowly and came to rest there waiting to be woken up from the dream. There is a foreshadowing quality here because this creature is indeed waiting to be woken up by her; there is a message that the creature carries, precisely one revolving around her fate.
