The State
Engels stresses, "But in order that these antagonisms, these classes with conflicting economic interest, might not consume themselves and society in fruitless struggle, it became necessary to have power seemingly standing above society, that would alleviate the conflict and keep it within the bounds of 'order'; and this power, arisen out of the society but placing above it, and alienating itself more and more from it, is the state."
The being of the state is attributed to the ill will that exists between various classes in society. Therefore, if classes were able to resolve their antagonisms and interests, the state would be indispensable. The state averts conflicts that would arise were the various classes left to their own device. Nevertheless, the state does not eliminate the antagonisms.
Revolution
Engels describes, “ The proletariat seizes from state power and turns the means of production into state property to begin with. But thereby it abolishes itself as the proletariat, abolishes all class distinctions and class antagonisms, and abolishes also the state as state. Society thus far, operating amid class antagonisms, needed the state, that is, an organization of the particular exploiting class for the maintenance of its external conditions of production.”
Here, Engels endorses a proletariat revolution that would empower the exploited individuals. Engels argues that a revolution would end the oppression that the proletariat is subjected to by the ruling class who control production factors. Moreover, the revolution would eliminate the existence of classes in society by triggering the state's demise. The main forms of oppression that would be destroyed in a revolution include "slavery, serfdom or bondage, wage labor."
Marxism
Lenin writes, “By educating the worker’s party, Marxism educates the vanguard of the proletariat, capable of assuming power and leading the whole people to socialism, of directing and organizing the new system, of being the teacher, the guide, the leader of all the working and exploited people in organizing their social life without the bourgeoisie and against the bourgeoisie.”
Marxism would eradicate opportunism which encourages the exploitation of the working class. This ideology is projected to solve capitalism's downsides by ensuring that the working class' representatives are in touch with the masses. Marxism empowers the proletariat to join in engagements that would limit the exploitation that they have endured under capitalism.
