The Spanish Love Deception Themes

Family Pressures

Catalina is the perfect example of an individual stressed by the family pressures to have certain accomplishments. In this case, however, it is not about the career choice but rather about her social life. She has informed them that she will attend her sister’s wedding in Spain with her American boyfriend. Catalina is aware that this information is such a big deal in the small town she grew up in that it may appear in the local newspaper. She feels the pressure to have a romantic partner akin to her sister even though she has not found one. Therefore, she decides to have a fake relationship with her coworker to fit in and fulfill the expectations of her family.

Romance

The essence of the narrative is romance despite the unconventional nature of the relationship between the two characters. Catalina and Aaron are office rivals who loathe each other even though they might be physically attracted to each other. Though everything seem to set the two up for workplace romance they hated each other at first sight. Their antagonistic relationship however creates an interesting dynamic as they work together to keep up their ruse. As they learn about one another their hatred subsides and romance begins to blossom steadily.

Trust

The personality of each of the characters is what repels the other person from considering any romantic relationship. Catalina thinks of Aaron as arrogant while he thinks of her as stubborn which fuels their enmity. Aaron’s willingness to help Catalina in her endeavor opens a chance of amicability between the two. Due to their reservations about each other, there is no trust, however, things change as they interact and solve issues together. The story is about people who begin to trust one another giving room for a romantic relationship to start.
