    Structure:

    In the first few essays in The Souls of Black Folk, DuBois introduces several important concepts that would guide research and theory in Black Studies and Sociology for decades. To begin this activity, ask students to list terms and concepts they think are important. At the very least, students should mention double consciousness and the Veil.
