A colloquial term used in the UK for a knitted jacket or sweater

Girleen

A colloquial Irish term for a girl or young woman

Grandee

A person of noble rank. In this book, it is used to indicate people of high rank (not necessarily noble)

Mendicant

A beggar

Offal

The intestines of an animal used in cooking

Peccadillo

A minor, petty offense

Plamasing

An Irish verb meaning to speak ingratiatingly or give disingenuous praise

Pallia

Plural of pallium, a Catholic vestment worn by an archbishop

Sinecure

A position that gives the holder status, while requiring little input or work from them

Scapular

A Catholic garment worn across the shoulders

Soutane

Another word for a cassock, a black robe commonly worn by Catholic priests

Suntrap

A small warm area or patch oriented toward the sun and sheltered from the wind

Unguent

An oily substance used as an ointment
