What do you think De Beauvoir means when she says that one is not born, but becomes a woman?

De Beauvoir is pointing out in this chapter that there are many influences that shape human beings from the time of their infancy. Many things which were (and even still are) attributed to nature are in fact formed by social influence from a young age.
