The Screaming Staircase Irony

The Screaming Staircase Irony

Confrontations at Lockwood and Company

The company has specific rules that each member must follow. For instance, the first rule requires George to finish his research before any investigation begins. Ironically, Lockwood and Lucy decide to disobey the first rule when they visit a ghost-haunted area. The investigation backfires because they need to use a different approach. Consequently, Lucy and Lockwood do the contrary when they only inform George that they have gone to start working before looking at his findings.

Burning Mrs. Hope’s House

Mrs. Hope gives Lockwood and Co. the task of removing ghosts from her house. Mrs. Hope does not expect them to conclude their investigation by burning her house. Ironically, Lockwood sets the house on fire after destroying the ghosts. Lockwood and Lucy argue that it is the only way to ensure the ghosts will not reappear. Mrs. Hope gets angry and sues Lockwood and Co. The court orders the company to compensate Mrs. Hope for the damages.

Mr. Fairfax

There is a dramatic irony when the author lets the readers know the evil intentions of Mr. Fairfax. Mr. Fairfax is working with the enemies to kill Lucy and her team members. Lucy and her colleagues know nothing about the murder plot against them because they agree to work for Mr. Fairfax. Mr. Fairfax pays Lockwood and Co. a lot to eliminate the ghosts haunting his estate. However, he intends to kill them during the investigation. Fortunately, Lucy and her teammates successfully finish the investigation. Finally, Lucy and her colleagues discover that Mr. Fairfax wants to kill them. Lucy instantly instructs the ghost known as Annabel to assassinate Mr. Fairfax.
