It is thought that the works of E.T.A. Hoffmann and other German Romanticists had some influence on the writings of Edgar Allan Poe, such his short story "The Fall of the House of Usher". Aside from this, Hoffmann's works can generally be connected in class to the writings of English and American Romanticists, who may not have been directly influenced by German authors, but would nevertheless have engaged with similar ideas in their own works.
