Students will be able to interpret the thoughts of characters and write clearly and concisely.

Structure:

In pairs, have students write and film a soliloquy for Henry Fleming.

Video technology may be as simple as a Flip camera, a smartphone or tablet or a more sophisticated camera. If video technology is not available, simply run the activity so that students will perform their soliloquy in front of the class.

Have pairs highlight and analyze text that captures Henry's thought process in this section. Ask them to write an original composition (a...
