Having personal strength is an important thing to have in a time of crisis. The film shows that leaders especially need to have personal strength because they go through a lot of challenges. The Queen shows perseverance as she faces one of the worst times in her reign.
The Queen’s inactions, such as not quickly giving a live televised statement, not raising a flag at half-mast to show respect, and not turning up in London to pay tribute, were not well-received. Her indifference and silence led to public outcry. Janvrin declares to Blair that the Queen ‘(has) not seen anything like this since the abdication (of her uncle)’. The Queen has not been involved in a scandal during her reign. The last scandal to have happened to the royal family was when her uncle chose to abdicate and marry a controversial partner. Therefore, she is shocked by this new scandal that has happened to her. Blair insists to the Queen the gravity of the situation when he inform her that ‘one in four are now in favour of abolishing the monarchy altogether’. This statistic was shocking to her.
