Devil-Bug

Devil-Bug is the leader of the Monk Hall, which is a private gentleman's club. Most evils in The Monk Hall are conducted at night. Paradoxically, most members of The Monk Hall are rich and respected during the day, but at night they turn to satanic deeds.

Reverend Pyne

Reverend Pyne is a respectable preacher throughout Philadelphia. Ironically, Pyne is a secret member of The Monk Hall. During the day, Pyne is a saint, and he preaches about morality and salvation. However, Art night Pyne is immoral and satanic.

The Pope

The Pope is head of the Catholic Church and the symbol of Christianity as preached by the reverend.

Mabel

Mabel is an orphan young woman who Reverend Pyne drugs. Pyne wants to rape Mabel, and he thinks the best way to do it is first to drug her. However, she is helped by God-Bug.

Gold-Bug

Gold-Bug is the man who saves Mabel from Reverend Pyne, who wants to rape her. Gold-Bug believes that Mabel is the daughter of his old lover, and she vows to protect her because she is her daughter as well.

Lorrimer

Lorrimer is depicted as a young handsome man who is rich and a member of The Monk Hall. Lorrimer plans to have sex with Mary and he thinks the best way to achieve his goal is by faking a wedding with her at The Monk Hall.

Mary

Mary is an innocent young woman who is a victim to Lorrimer’s evil scheme. Mary is Byrnewood’s sister. Lorrimer’s scheme is botched but he manages to have sex with Mary. Later, Mary dies.

Local Merchant

The local merchant is the father of Mary and Byrnewood.

Byrnewood

Byrnewood is Mary’s brother. He is a member of The Monk Hall. When Byrnewood discovers Lorrimer’s scheme have a fake wedding with Mary, he stops the wedding. The Devil-Bug and Lorrimer plot to kill Byrnewood but they fail. Byrnewood vows to revenge the death of his sister, Mary.
