Muliebrity
The poem consists of 18 lines and canters around a young Indian girl who spends her days working with cows. The narrator is watching her from a distance, as the girl goes about collecting cow-dung for money. Unbeknownst to the girl, the narrator states that she has a ‘glistening’ power about her person that is not obvious to many.
Partition
This poem conveys the tale of a young woman who takes daily trips to a railway station in order to provide for people in distress during the division of British India into India and Pakistan. Her niece, remains behinds, and comments on how she wishes she were brave enough to be like her aunt. However, the girl still considers herself a patriot, despite her lack of courage.
The poem begins with the narrator commenting that she glimpsed a bird that she though looked like a peacock. The narrator goes on to describe the beauty of the bird in great detail as she waits. In the end, she has is reading a book trying to distract herself, when the peacock comes up to her.
