Fredrick is a widower who lives in the Pines. His family has existed in the Pines for many generations. According to Fredrick, he and his seven children intend on continuing to live in the Pines for as long as they can. Fredrick has no phone nor does he worry about the internet. In his conversation with John, Fredrick admitted that he found solace in the vast nature that surrounds his hometown.
Piney
"Piney" used to refer to people living in the Pines. According to mainstream beliefs, people living in the Pines were known to be savage, illiterate, and incestuous. Contrary to urban legends, John describes residents as very friendly and down to earth. Most of them lead a quiet life and enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds their homes.
Emilio Carranza
Carranza was a Mexican pilot whose plane crashed in the Pines on his way to Mexico from New York. The town holds a yearly memorial to commemorate Carranza.
Mario Ruspoli
Ruspoli was the second Prince of the Holy Roman Empire and son to Emanuele Ruspoli. After moving to New Jersey, he built a massive villa for his wife in the woodland town of Chatsworth.
Wasovwich
Wasovwich is a local resident who acts as John’s guide. Born and raised in the Pines, Wasovwich has visited most parts of the wooded area and is a well-equipped tour guide.
