    Horror as a Genre

    Classwide Discussion

    Objective:

    Students will understand characteristics of horror as a genre

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.4, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.5

    Structure:

    Genres in general can be tricky to pin down, and horror is no exception. It doesn't have a set definition. Separate the class into small groups and have them brainstorm some characteristics they think might apply to the genre. They can keep track of this on chart paper or some other collaborative document.

    Once groups have their own lists of aspects of horror, come together as a class to share them. Does most of the class agree? Are there any aspects...
