Discuss the role of symbolism in the story. What are some of the symbols and what do they mean?
The titular paw is perhaps the most obvious symbol, and the text leaves enough ambiguity to make for some interesting discussion regarding its meaning. Does the paw symbolize cruel and inevitable fate, which cannot be thwarted by mere mortals like the Whites? Does it symbolize temptation to mess with powerful forces?
