Thomas Cromwell is a blacksmith’s son who ascends to the pinnacle of power and wealth. He is appointed as the King’s adviser. He becomes ruthless, and he tortures and executes people on King’s orders. His ambition to get into power makes him start dismissing the aristocrats. Thomas believes that he is capable of sweeping the aristocratic families from power and make progress toward his objectives. Such desires make him fall from royal. Eventually, he is captured and executed.
The greediness of power and wealth leads to downfall. Thomas scaled the heights of power and became ruthless. He builds his life around the King and feels powerful. When King becomes close to Thomas, he thinks that they are equal. Thomas forgets that Henry made him powerful. He starts treating members of aristocratic families with contempt.
Thomas believes that he can wipe out all powerful families and ascend into power. As a result, he starts defying everybody save for the King. People never thought that he would fall due to the power he wielded. When he finally falls, it is unbelievable to him and the reader. The book shows that power and wealth should not make people ruthless.
